“Let’s find a less painful way to get that outcome”

I thought this to be a wonderful idea about how coaches help their clients. See my posts of 12/14/09 and 12/21/09 for more about what coaches do. This thought came from Kathrin Krönig who is an executive coach in Germany and Canada.

Quite often with meeting and relationship issues we muddle thru to an OK result. Say, for example, you’re leading a team doing a complex negotiation. You have to deal with and manage many personalities, keep up with changes in the other side’s strategy and take care of your own work life balance. Quite a workload.

In this kind of situation a regular review of what’s going on with a coach, who is not involved directly, will help you analyze your actions and options dispassionately with a critical eye. That will accelerate your learning from experience and sharpen your next steps and strategies. The coach doesn’t have to be an official Executive Coach. It can be your boss, a friend, your mentor or even one of your children for certain problems.

All in all a good a good way to get better outcomes with less pain.
