The Main Thing is that The Main Thing is The Main Thing

My friend Aaron Milrad introduced me to this piece of advice which has a bit of history in a variety of places, like music, financial acumen and religion. The idea is to focus, whether in business, your family life or your personal world. Do a few things well and you’ll be a lot happier and successful.

The first thing of course is to figure out what your main things are. They could be values you adhere to. Or they could be goals that you continually strive to achieve. Or they could be the very best strategy that gets you what you want. In my coaching work the main thing is almost always to go back to goals to be assured we’re on the right track and sticking to the best strategies.

The second thing is how to stay with the main thing. If you’ve been a long time reader you know I’m a fan of 3×5 cards that are handwritten and continually updated. Handwritten, because that seems to etch ideas onto our subconscious effectively and updated continually so we don’t forget what the main things are.
